Digital Printing: How Konica Minolta redefines the quality and service in the Digital Age

Digital Printing: How Konica Minolta redefines the quality and service in the Digital Age

India, 14 September,2023: Businesses bank on print, even today. Thanks to the power of visual recall, when the written word attains physicality on paper, it elicits cognisance, attention, and gravity, that is unparalleled by a screen. Printing remains a preferred medium of communication in business processes, even when tasks are maintained and managed digitally. So, how does that marry into businesses’ ESG compliance?

The solution lies in understanding the chain of sustainability, and how it does not begin and end with the usage of paper. Moving forth from the necessity of paper and other derivative substrates in carrying print, there lie other avenues of sustainability optimisation in the entire printing process.

Intelligent Document Processing

This pursuit of ethical excellence is led by Konica Minolta, a global pioneer in printing solutions that has redefined the benchmarks of quality and service in the digital printing industry. Konica Minolta’s unwavering commitment to innovation and cutting-edge technology has catapulted the digital printing experience to unprecedented heights. In a groundbreaking move, the brand introduced an industry-first initiative – the Print Xpress on-wheel campaign, traversing more than 150 cities and engaging with over 2500 users, showcasing the latest technologies and innovations.

By eliminating the need for metal plates, digital printers significantly conserve energy and minimise environmental impact. Additionally, the toners used in digital printing form a surface layer on the paper, preventing bleeding and enabling printing on diverse materials, including packaging, plastics, fabrics, and metal foils.

A study by Konica Minolta says, “Inkjet Printer reduces environmental impact significantly, with a 57% reduction in electricity usage compared to conventional screen-printing. In addition, it helps save energy for operations such as air conditioning and lighting by increasing customers production efficiency”.

With a steadfast commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility, Konica Minolta has set ambitious targets to reduce its carbon footprint by 60 percent by 2030 and 80 percent by 2050 under Eco-Vision 2030 and Eco-Vision 2050. One of the measures to get there, is utilising precise heat curing through infrared emitters or UV rays, digital printing ensures efficient drying of ink without the necessity for additional paper runs, limiting paper and energy usage. Flexographic (offset) printers have long setups and constant running waste, often higher than 15%. That means that for every order of labels produced, 15% more is just thrown in the trash.

Green at heart

Personalisation is the key to effectively engage customers, and Konica Minolta comprehends this need, empowering businesses to create tailor-made prints that resonate with their target audience. From variable data printing to on-demand printing, their solutions enable users to craft messages and designs for each recipient, driving engagement and augmenting ROI. Additionally, a dedicated team of experts is always at the ready to assist with installation, training, troubleshooting, and maintenance, ensuring that your digital printing solutions run seamlessly.

Konica Minolta’s commitment to innovation, print quality, customisation, speed, sustainability, exceptional service, and future-readiness makes them the go-to choice for businesses looking to make an indelible impact in the digital age. Step into the future of digital printing with Konica Minolta and redefine your standards of excellence.

Intelligent Document Processing: Preparing today’s businesses for tomorrow

Intelligent Document Processing: Preparing today’s businesses for tomorrow

India, 18 August,2023: Not long ago, I was watching The Big Short, a movie based on Michael Lewis’ book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine. The movie revolves around the financial crisis of 2007-2008, triggered by the United States housing bubble. In the movie, you’ll find a scene in which hedge fund manager Michael Burry (played by Christian Bale) is lying on the floor between heaps of documents scattered around in his office, analysing some data. Soon, he realised the banks had created a housing bubble that kept providing mortgage loans to buyers that they couldn’t pay off or afford to pay back in the first place. It’s the moment in the movie in which Mr Burry finds that there is a financial crisis looming over the US economy.

The above scene offers a glimpse of the complex data management that organisations reel under regularly. At the same time, it also underlines the importance of IDP—a software solution that records, transforms, and processes data from documents. If only Mr Burry and the banks had access to a solution like IDP in 2005, they might have avoided one of the biggest financial crises that shook economies worldwide.

Intelligent Document Processing

Fast forwarding to the present, companies across sectors have accelerated the adoption of enterprise software solutions that allow them to address their growing data requirements. Such new-age solutions help firms store bulk data, process it, and derive predictive analytics, improving their workflow and furthering their automation plans while maintaining the organisation’s workflow.

In other words, the growth of today’s firms largely relies on how they handle large quantities of data. Yet, the majority of the firms’ data remains unstructured. To put it simply, many companies continue to lag because their data is impossible to track and put to use. In order to tackle this, leaders in the past have used methods like manual data entry—a process in which an employee capture information or foregoes valuable data and insights. The process is time-consuming and tiresome, the equivalent of having numerous Mr Burry-like instances.

Companies nowadays are adopting solutions like IDP, which processes documents with structured and semi-structured design layouts and later converts the information trapped in static layouts into more dynamically accessible and usable information. Business data in the form that is easily consumable by Business Process Management platforms and Enterprise Resource Planning software form the core of the digital transformation journey; unfortunately, a significant amount of business data is embedded in unstructured formats like business documents, emails, images and PDF documents.

It is worth mentioning that intelligent document processing is the future of document management automation. It has the capability to classify, capture, extract, and process data from a variety of document formats. It uses AI technologies such as natural language processing (NLP), Computer Vision, deep learning and machine learning (ML) to classify, categorise, and extract relevant information, and validate the extracted data.

As per the report “Intelligent Document Processing Market by Component (Solutions, Services), Deployment Mode (Cloud, On-Premises), Organisation Size, Technology, Vertical (BFSI, Government, Healthcare and Life Sciences) and Region – Global Forecast to 2027”, published by Markets and Markets™, the global IDP Market size is expected to rise from $1.1 billion in 2022 to $5.2 billion in 2027 (around INR 415.636 billion), at a CAGR of 37.5 per cent during the forecast period.

The numbers clearly show that IDP is deepening its roots for multiple reasons. It is cost-effective, boosts process efficiency, and gives a strategic advantage to the business over its competitors with improved flexibility, scalability, and serviceability. Additionally, since the software is AI-enabled, it continues to learn and evolve with time. It processes multiple data types, absorbs information, and finally makes modified decisions with time.

In conclusion, the digital transformation of unstructured data and connecting it with the firm’s tech ecosystem can expedite operations, thus, boosting overall productivity. Solutions like IDP are helping businesses to conduct business smartly. It will be interesting to see where and how this technology will evolve and what role it will play in the next crisis that has the capability to disturb global economies.

Manash Das: Can you provide insights into the R&D efforts at Konica Minolta that contribute to the continuous improvement of digital label press technologies?

Katsuhisa Asari: Konica Minolta is dedicated to serving worldwide customers and aiding individuals in achieving their aspirations. We accomplish this through our 5 co-creation sites and 19 development bases worldwide. In Japan, we prioritize the advancement of four core technologies (imaging, materials, optics, and nanofabrication) in conjunction with IoT to cater to diverse demands. Moreover, we’re engaged in crafting AI solutions and digital services for offices and the digital sector across Europe and the United States, fostering global cooperation and capitalizing on our regional strengths.

For example, a printing device occasionally causes variations in colors and printing positions due to environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity, so operators have had to adjust colors and printing positions appropriately before or during printing. They also check each sheet of printed matter after printing. However, our innovative IQ-501 is equipped with scanners that can read the entire area of paper and a spectrophotometer for accurately measuring color. This combination enables customers to constantly scan images while printing, reduce the chrominance ⊿E00 between the start of printing and any point during printing through real-time corrections, and inspect printed matter for defects such as micron-order stain.

The IQ-501 helps solve issues that customers have long assumed they had to fix, by combining various imaging, measurement, optics, and machinery technologies. Our commitment persists in addressing customer challenges and delivering societal value by synergizing Konica Minolta’s technological prowess with our partners’ expertise and business channels.

Manash Das: With the rising popularity of digital printing, how do you see the future of the label printing industry, and what role does Konica Minolta play in shaping that future?

Katsuhisa Asari: We will be contributing to the role of innovators and disruptors in the digital printing space in the future. Our two million customer base and proactive research and development efforts inform each other. For example, AccurioLabel 400 Digital Label Press offers a high space utility factor with high productivity. Manash Das: In what ways does Konica Minolta engage with its customers to understand their requirements and tailor solutions to meet their specific needs?

Katsuhisa Asari: Konica Minolta customizes business solutions on three parameters – Managed Content Services, Optimized Print services, and Print Management.

Under Managed Content Services, our solutions help the business customize communication within and outside the organization by solving business problems. Under this, we cater to Enterprise Content Management, Business Process Automation, Robotic Process Automation and Document Capture. Synchronizing an online work desk for internal communications, while automating manual business processes depends on the scale of operations and employee network.

Konica Minolta’s Optimised Print Services (OPS) combine consulting, hardware, software implementation and workflow management to lower document spend. The OPS concept focuses on four essential areas – Right-sizing the document output fleet to actual business needs, analyzing all business-relevant document flows in order to increase productivity, Offering different purchasing and leasing options as well as various contract models, Designing and implementing IT and information security solutions, as well as Supporting a company’s sustainability goals by implementing the most environmentally friendly document-related hardware and business workflows.

Konica Minolta Print Xpress digital yatra covers 130 cities

Konica Minolta Print Xpress digital yatra covers 130 cities

India, 28 July,2023: Konica Minolta’s much-publicized Print Xpress digital yatra of four buses — containing a complete digital press with its workflow — has covered more than 130 cities. The yatra endeavors to complete 150 cities to meet new customers who are learning the benefits of digital production as well as increase brand and product awareness.

As reported earlier by Indian Printer and Publisher, the journey was flagged off in the end of March from Greater Noida, Delhi-NCR. By the latter part of May, the four Print Xpress buses had already reached more than 80 destinations for one-day demonstrations.

Titled “Print Xpress – Innovations in print, the roadshow showcases Konica Minolta’s AccurioPrint C4065 High Chroma Engine production printer, its AccurioPress C73hc, and a print finishing application zone.

Yatra-Cover

Despite various logistics challenges, including the paperwork required for the transport of capital equipment across state lines, there has been considerable enthusiasm for the mobile roadshow in tier 3 and 4 towns and cities where the Print Xpress arrives in the morning, gives demonstrations throughout most of the day, and then heads to the next town or small city.

Konica Minolta says it has observed a shift in the requirement of the print volumes. The printers are also acknowledging the benefits of digital printing in the short run. In tier 1 cities, the interest in digital printing is still increasing. Economic growth across the country is having a positive impact on print consumption in all forms — digital, offset, labels, and packaging.

Progress of the Print Xpress

The four Print Xpress roadshow buses are expected to reach their target of one hundred towns, including those furthest away from the starting point, by the end of May. Despite various logistics challenges, including the paperwork required for the transport of capital equipment across state lines, there has been considerable enthusiasm for the mobile roadshow in each tier 3 and 4 town where the Print Xpress arrives in the morning, gives demonstrations throughout most of the day, and then trundles on to the next town or small city. In the Print Xpress bus traveling in South India, almost 100 local participants have come to see the demonstrations on a single day in many of the towns.

At Konica-Minolta India’s launch of the Print Xpress in end-March, which coincided with the company’s 150th-anniversary celebration, the company’s managing director for India Katsuhisa Asari said the roadshow – a digital press and finishing plant on wheels – aims to connect with new customers and showcase new business opportunities. “India is huge and so is its print market. This roadshow will touch base with our customers, potential customers, or curious visitors. We aim to educate lier 3 and 4 cities about the possible capabilities with digital print and how incredible their businesses can be with the right application,” Asari said.

Commenting on what he calls the Print Xpress digital yatra, Indian Printer and Publisher’s editor, Naresh Khanna said at the time of its launch, “Listening to printers across the country and interacting with them by demonstrating the latest technology can be a transformational and inspiring voyage of discovery.

For any citizen or company that dares to explore the vast potential of creativity and uses of print that a nation hungry for communication and education possesses, there is bound to be a great reward of learning. These lively interactions will enhance the power of print and democratize the business ~ creating livelihoods. The Print Xpress digital yatra will engender access to ideas, education, and technology. Print helped to bring freedom to the nation and it is essential to use it more widely to continue to build prosperity and a scientific temper.
